Annual Training a Hit with Staff and Partners
On July 14, 2015, Approximately 60 individuals from America’s Job Centers of California (AJCC) and the Employment Development Department (EDD) came together to hear about the key concepts of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). After a welcome from Employment & Human Services Department (EHSD) Director Kathy Gallagher; who spoke on the Act’s call for closer collaboration with welfare-to-work programs, attendees heard presentations on regional efforts, labor market trends, partnerships and business services. Donna Van Wert, Administrator of the One Stop Consortium, spoke on One Stop redesign from the perspective of programs and services, while Stephen Baiter, Executive Director of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, asked the audience to think about how space design affects customer experience.
A highlight of the day was the peer recognition awards. Staff members were voted by their peers to be most efficient, best team player, having best attitude, most innovative/creative, best at building partnerships, and most knowledgeable.
The training received a 94% satisfaction rating based on the evaluations turned in at the end of the program. Attendees remarked, “Outstanding,” “Fun and informative,” “Excellent day,” “Great meeting -- one of the most informative I have attended in 14 years.”
Case managers, employer liaisons and clerks have been attending additional trainings on the CalJOBS system and other technical topics for last few months in order to prepare for the implementation of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
