Rep. McNerney Tours EASTBay Works to Highlight Regional Job Resources
Congressman Jerry McNerney toured the EASTBay Works One-Stop Center in Brentwood on Wednesday, August 19th. On the tour the Congressman saw firsthand the resources that the One-Stop Center provides for job training in the community and spoke with Center employees about how they connect people with those resources to prepare them for the workforce. These resources include free computer workstations and telephone lines that any job seeker may use for job searching and resume building purposes.
After the tour, Congressman McNerney sat down with Stephen Baiter, Executive Director of the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, and all the leaders of the One-Stop Business Centers throughout Contra Costa County. Mr. Baiter shared how some of the federal funds from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act are being put to use to train more people and boost the economic vitality of the region. Baiter also discussed several of the training programs that are available to re-train the workforce, and how the centers deal with the flux of employers migrating in and out of the Bay Area. It was a very productive afternoon and a reminder of why it’s important to continuously invest in the local workforce to build a strong, sustainable economy.
